Career History.

2003 - Present - TSEU - Mechanical Design Engineer.

Key member of staff with a wide and varied role within the company, although mechanical design is my primary function. I manage the drawing office with one other member of staff, who I have trained from scratch. I am fully responsible for all of the mechanical design, PCB layouts and schematic capture, site layout drawings, piece part drawings, installation drawings, wiring diagrams/tables, assembly drawings, and parts lists. It is also my responsibility to structure and fully document every new product, as well as maintaining existing product documentation.

Working closely with other members of a multi disciplined team and management; I produce designs for electronic and optical enclosures, in a cost effective and timely manner. I have developed many new products, such as custom fabricated 3U and 6U racks, large fabricated controller cabinets, power supply enclosures, and moulded optical modules. All of the products that I design meet relevant industry standards, so I have an understanding of environmental requirements, such as cyclic heat, vibration, impact resistance, and water/dust ingress. I also have a basic understanding of EMC principals, and thermal management. Most of the products are manufactured and assembled outside of the U.K., so I sometimes travel abroad to problem solve and make improvements alongside a third party.
Since I joined TSEU, I have taught myself a new CAD system (CADSTAR), so I am also confident that I can repeat this with other CAD packages if necessary.

2002 - 2003 - Valvestock - Draughtsperson.

Actuated valve packages. Designing fabricated and machined piece parts for actuated valve assemblies. Preparing general assembly drawings for shop floor builds and customer approved.

1997 - 2002 - Microsense Systems Limited - Draughtsperson.

Recruited as a trainee Draughtsperson. Trained for two years in the drawing office, with day release to college, leading to my AutoCAD qualification. After two years, I was promoted to Draughtsperson and given the responsibility for the mechanical design in the company.

Designing enclosures for electronic products, from 6U cards and racks, to large controller units. I gained experience in many manufacturing techniques and materials, such as sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, and vacuum forming.

Producing piece part drawings, assembly drawings, and parts lists

1996 - 1997 - Tricool Engineering Limited - Trainee Technician.

Industrial Refrigeration. Working in the technical and purchasing department. Site surveys. Principles of refrigeration, selecting and ordering major parts, trouble shooting, visiting and leasing with clients.
