Career History

August 1995 to present, Future Designs Limited

Future Designs Limited are a small team of lighting designers and suppliers who offer a full in-house lighting design service incorporating lighting calculations (luminance, glare, illuminance, power consumption, sustainability, etc.), luminaire design (off-the-shelf to bespoke), luminaire layouts, and sample fittings; as Head of Design I was fully responsible for all technical and material output; turnover is approximately £3million per annum.

- Directly managed a team of 3 lighting designers.

- Full responsibility for all calculations, drawings, samples and presentations to clients.

- Established in-house Research & Development programme through which specific regulations were targeted and surpassed.

- Performed across-the-board lighting calculations; designed and developed luminaires which comply to current regulations whilst retaining the aesthetic requirement of the client.

- Implemented all internal hardware and software requirements; identifying user needs, sourcing relevant products, installing and integrating with internal network; back-up and maintenance of entire system database.

Key Skills and Achievements
- Held a senior management position for a company employing 20 staff in which I excelled in my post as Head of Design.

- Created and delivered in-house training scheme for lighting calculation software which was successfully implemented to customers and clients.

- Managed and overlooked all company key accounts overseeing projects from conception to completion.

- Working closely with clients, consultants and architects in order to provide the most suitable lighting solutions.

- Proactive team manager capable of communicating and motivating others with a proven track-record of clear and creative problem solving.

- Project management skills to deliver projects on time & on budget.

- Effective communication skills at all levels both internally and externally.

- Provided full support to all employees on all internal operating systems along with the range of in-house applications.

- Evaluate and recommend purchases of hardware and software. Instrumental in winning lighting contracts for many large buildings/businesses, including the refitment of all branches of Barclays Banks and their 'Branch of the Future' programme, to, bespoke luminaries' for Shell's head office at Waterloo.

- Kingston University - BTEC Higher National Diploma In Aeronautical Engineering -Passed with Merit.

- Numerous CPD courses in lighting design, lighting calculations, and regulations.
- Various software courses for AutoCAD including 3D modelling, Relux, and Goldmine.
- Attended several Management Training/Improvement Courses.
- IT Competent in Microsoft Office Suite and a number of graphic design packages including Corel Draw, PhotoShop and SolidWorks in which I am self-taught.

 

 

 

Interests
Football, Cricket, Cycling and Cooking are my main interests, though I have been involved in many interests which range from parachute jumping to SCUBA diving.
I hold a full driver's license.
